Suck It Up

I know how you feel. No really, I do. You think no one understands what you’re going through. You think you’re the only person that sucks at Spanish at the moment. Well mate, I’ve got news for you; you’re by far not the only one. You suck! Deal with it!

Like I said; you’re not the only one. I sucked, my classmates sucked (some still do) and every of the millions of Spanish learners out there either sucked or still sucks. And it’s ok, there’s nothing to be ashamed about. Shall I tell you a secret? Even natives were bad at their native tongue once, and sometimes continue to suck at it while being adults.

Shoot, I’m using this whole “suck” way too much this post. What I’m trying to say is that there’s always room for improvement, yes, but that it’s not that hard to improve. You probably already learnt a lot by now and you’re getting better at understanding real Spanish every minute you’re exposed to it. More input simply means better skills.

Unfortunately it’s impossible to cram 2 minutes of input in 1 minute, so you can’t really speed up the process. But you gain absolutely nothing from stressing yourself out. Go with the flow, enjoy this freakin’ cool journey.

I estimate that about 80% of my readers are learning Spanish because they want to learn it, not because some boss or teacher tells them. But even if you’re learning Spanish for your work or school there’s no need to stress.

This input thing does take some more time upfront, but the results are pretty amazing after a while. But the most inportant that is to keep going and to be relaxed. The key to this is to get input from sources you actually enjoy. Don’t use materials because you think they’re good for you or because it’s easier to get access to. Go the distance, search for thing you really like and treat everything else as it were bad for you. This way you will get badass at Spanish.

Until then there’s actually only one solution… suck it up! Really, you know you’re not good at Spanish right now, and so do your Spanish-speaking friends. But it doesn’t matter. It can only get better from here, so start working on it right now.
