Yesterday a reader called L-star sent me an e-mail to suggest a pretty neat word in Spanish: crack.
We all know the word “crack” in English; a kind of drugs made from cocaine. In Spanish it’s actually the same, but it has some more meanings than that. It can also mean “to go bankrupt (here it’s used more or less in the same way as in English, although we often use “crash” instead).
However, the most interesting use of the word is to refer to a “star” or someone “incredible”. While it’s officially only used for “star”, it’s also used as a synonym to fenómeno, genial or guay.
Sentences
La bolsa de Nueva York hizo crack.

El club ha fichado un nuevo crack.

¡Eres un crack!
You’re great!
