Should the Spanish Word of the Day Become a Podcast?

I’m currently brainstorming with a group of fellow bloggers about how to improve our blogs. After seeing and analyzing this blog, we’ve been talking about implementing something new. Currently, it’s a bit hard for me to publish a Spanish Word of the Day every day of the week. I already cut down to five days a week, but even that is a bit difficult for me at the moment (I’m currently moving to Spain). That’s why I’ve been thinking about the following idea:

Instead of just posting a post, I was thinking about making a podcast once in a while about a Spanish word or expression. This won’t been daily, but every few days should be possible. The main reason for this is that I feel the main focus of this blog is moving away from how to learn Spanish to actually teaching Spanish. That was never my intention, and will never be my goal; the Spanish Word of the Day was simply to fill the gap between the ‘how-to’ posts. Of course the podcasts will be published with a post so that you can still copy-paste the sentences, but the main focus will be on the audio.

What do you think? A daily Spanish Word of the Day isn’t possible anyway, as I’m going to focus on some other projects first (about which I’ll post this week, but it involves an experiment). But I know that many of you enjoy them and that removing it completely will mean a loss for many. In the meanwhile I’ll look for some help on this thing, but I first want to hear from you what you think about making it a podcast.

I think a Podcast along with a written post would be pretty cool, but it’s nice to have a visual. Besides, Spanish is written more or less phonetically so I can’t imagine hearing it spoken would add all that much. Furthermore, it’s convenient to just be able to look through to the word/phrase if I don’t have time to read the whole post.

Just my thoughts – thank you!

“The word of the day” is for me and people I recomend your blog, the VERY special point of your blog.

Honestly, I enjoy it exactly how it is. If you can not do it, every day, no worrys, as soon as you can do it “regularly” (once a week, or a month..).

Podcast? I don’t know how good or bad it can be…

Good luck moving to Spain!

Word of the day in whatever form seems like a great idea, however, I don’t read your blog for its spanish content so its wasted on me. but I would be much more interested in the how-to’s of learning language a là AJATT together with classes. I liked the posts you did until now, in particular those on learning how to speak (would be interested in much more on learning to speak eg. getting corrected or not, when, how, etc) something like that.

have fun in spain!

@Goyo
True, but I’m not changing anything at the moment, just asking you guys’ opinion.

@Joel
That’s the best at the moment, yes. Just like Simon at Omniglot does (http://www.omniglot.com/blog). He posts a Word of the Day whenever he can, but mostly just twice a week or so.

@J
Good to see that there are people here for the how-to articles only ;-) . I understand you point about self-study in combination with classes, but I don’t really believe in classes. Still, I can post more about my own experiences about college and studying on my own.

Don’t worry about the speaking part; I have some posts lined up about that.

I voted “yes”. Give it a go and see if you like it or not. It will also extend your brand to a new audience since there are people who are regular listeners of podcasts but irregular visitors of blogs.
