Spanish Word of the Day: necedad

by Ramses on February 26, 2009 · 3 comments

Today a really short post as I’ve ben lying in bed, being really really ill, the last few days. While beingin bed, and still trying to get things done for school, I thought that this was una necedad.

What’s necedad? Often, people translate it to “crassness” in English, but that’s not the meaning I was thinking about. No, you can also use necedad if something is non-sense or a stupidity. For example: an expression you can use is ¡dices necedades! - “you talk non-sense!”. Another expression that’s common is: ¡es una necedad! = “it’s sheer stupidity”.

Ok, now I’m off to bed again!

¡Qué sientas bien pronto!
I’m not certain if un español would say this sentiment like this. It’s my translation from English.

In Spanish you’d rather say: ¡Qué te mejores! or ¡Qué te mejores pronto!
