Spanish Word of the Day: zorra

Everyone knows who Zorro is. The books, the shows, the movies; he’s just so well-known. The reason why he was named Zorro (which means fox in Spanish) was because of his slyness. So, we know that zorro is a fox, a male-fox. Then zorra must be female-fox. Wron… ehhh… right! But there’s even a filthier meaning…

…that of whore, slut, puta. It’s filthy, it’s vulgar, so watch out when you use it. If you want to insult a woman, use this. If not, don’t. Still, you can use it instead of puta, for example in the following context:

Not:
No tengo ni puta idea.

But:
No tengo ni zorra idea.

Still, the former (with puta) is more common.
