Everyone knows the verb cansar. The expression ¡estoy cansado! is used so often that there’s no way to forget it. But sometimes, you’re not simply tired. No, there are times you’re exhausted or simply used up. Could be, but then there’s no way you use the verb cansar.
No, there’s a stronger feeling needed – just like in English. And there is, in the form of the verb agotar. Agotar simply means “to exhaust”, “to be exhausted” or “to use up”. In the context of the latter definition it can also be used for things, like the first example sentence shows.
Sentences
El público agotó la edición.
The edition sold out.
Agotó sus fuerzas.
He used up all his strength.
Agotaron todos los temas de conversación.
They exhausted all topics of conversation.
¡Estoy agotado!
I’m exhausted!
