Saying that someone’s lazy or idle can be done in several ways. Of course there’s always the word perezoso, along with flojo and even holgazán. However, the shortest and in my view the coolest words to say someonés lazy is vago.
Vago is a rather interesting word, as it not only means ‘lazy’ or ‘idle’. It can mean ‘vague’ or ’slight’ at the same time. Remember the site vagos.es? I always thought that they meant it as “we’re lazy”, but in fact it’s more logical to use it as “we’re a vague bunch of people!”, considered all the pirated stuff that’s floating around over there.
*Grammatical note: the feminine form of vago is vaga. For perezoso it’s perezosa, for flojo it’s floja and for holgazán it’s holgazana.
Sentences
Deja ya de hacer el vago.
Stop lazing around.
¡Mira que eres vago!
Look how lazy you are!
Tiene una vaga idea de lo que ocurrió.
He has a vague idea of what happened.

I love that word- I first learned it while watching the movie Desperado with the Spanish audio turned on. There’s a scene near the beginning where Steve Buscemi’s character mentions a bar that was “lleno de vagos!”. It’s stuck with me ever since.
I wonder if vago is related to the English word vagabond.

Hm, in Spanish ‘vagabond’ is vagabundo, so I guess not.

No, it’s vago. You pronounce the ‘v’ as a ‘b’.
