As you might have seen, there’s a new (and first) sponsor which advertises in the sidebar. The program is called Learning SpanishLike Crazy, which tries to say that it’ll teach you Spanish incredibly fast. I’m sorry to say that I have no experience with language learning programs (like I told here before), but I know that they can help and that I’ve heard some good stories about some of the products out there (of which LSLC is one of them). Because it’s a new sponsor, I’ll review it.
The program I reviewed was the level 1 program, but there’re three programs in total with additional materials (if you decide to buy the program, you can go either for the ‘lite’ version which consists of the level 1 program, and the ‘full’ version which has all levels and some neat extra programs).
First impression
If you go to the website of LSLC, the first impression may be ‘wow, that looks cheap!‘, and then I mean ‘cheap’ in a negative way. At least, that was what I was thinking. Normally, I’m not that fond of landing pages like this. Also, it’s a bit vague where you can buy the program and what comes with it. What you have to do is signing yourself up for the first two (free) lessons, after which you can see what the program is and what options you have if you want to buy it.
As soon as your signed yourself up for the free lessons, you land on another… landing(?) page. So, two pages, the first one really short and vague, the second reaaaaaaly long with some stories to sell you the product. “Earlier I couldn’t understand Mexican wife when she was mad at me, now I know she actually hates me. Thanks!“ “Yeah, I bought your program and now I RULE at Spanish. Thanks!“, etc., etc. While some reviews are nice, I normally don’t buy the stuff on the page of the producer/seller/whatever. So yet again, a bit cheap.
The program itself (level 1)
Where many other programs overwhelm your with information, LSLC starts relatively easy. The first lesson teaches you some personal pronouns like tú (yup, no usted to begin with, although it teaches you the general form of Latin-American Spanish). It also teaches you how to ask questions, tell something about yourself, etc. Just the simple stuff. It may look like you won’t learn much, but when I fast forwarded to lesson 10, 20 and 30, I was amazed how fast you advance in level and the things you learn.
Next to the first level, there are two more (which I couldn’t review, because I don’t have them at the moment). If they teach you as much as the first level does, then you’ve got yourself a really nice program to kick-start your Spanish.
Overall rating
It’s a pity that the producers of the program decided to only sell the program through affiliate marketing and use really weird and vague landing pages to do so. A big plus is that you can get a free preview (the two free lessons) after which you can decide if you want to buy one or more levels or not.
What others say
There’s a buzz going on the web about this programs for a while now. People at How-To-Learn-Any-Language.com and Amazon.com like the program in general. You should read some of their reviews as well -> check the Amazon reviews.
My opinion (that’s me, Ramses)
I’m seriously thinking about implementing some of the stuff from LSLC in my lessons. Why? Because it contains real life Spanish, not too textbookish and there’s even a special slang lesson (man, they should have an entire level dedicated to Spanish slang)! Don’t turn yourself down due to the cheap marketing tactics, they ARE cheap! Even the program doesn’t cost that much, considered other companies that dare to ask $1000 or more per level (which won’t teach you as much as LSLC will).
So, do I think it’s good? If you’re a n00b when it comes to Spanish and don’t know where to start, yes. If you can stand language courses, yes. If you want to get a better understanding of the Spanish language, yes. Personally, I can’t stand language courses that long, so I normally get myself some dubbed DVDs and start watching and listening. Still, considered the price you should do it anyway.
And still; if you really want to become fluent, you need massive input. A language course won’t do that, but it’s a nice start anyway.
What it means for me
What means promoting this program for me? I’m going to be honest: if you decide to buy the program, I’ll earn a nice commission which brings my intercambio to Spain a step closer. That doesn’t mean that I think this this program is bad and that I only want to make money off you guys.
Still, I’m also helping you as you can get some serious cash back…
What it can mean to you
If you decide to buy the program, the sale gets accepted and I receive the commission, I’ll give you back $50. That’s right, $99 – $50 means that level 1 will only cost you $49. Not bad considered the fact most people pay waaaaay more for similair programs.
Want to get your $50 after you purchased the product? Send me a copy of your PayPal receipt to ramses [at] spanish-only [dot] com, and it’ll all happen as soon as the return/cashback period ends.
I’m no longer offering cash-back when you decide to buy the program through my affiliate link. You can still buy it through my link if you want to support this website, but I’m not going to give you an amount of cash back. Sorry.
Decided that you want to buy the program? Click HERE to go the landing page linked to my affiliate id. If you don’t like it, you can return it within 30 days (check the Terms at the producers’ page).
